Kayaking on the “Edge” – New for 2007 - $60.00
For those of you with kayaking experience and/or the flatwater or level 1 certification or equivalent, this course will introduce you to more advanced kayaking skills. By learning to paddle on the “edge” you’ll learn to make maximum use of your body, boat and blade for higher performance paddling. We will also work on making your forward stroke more efficient. This course is also an excellent primer for the Paddle Canada level 2 sea kayaking course.
To enroll in this course you must be prepared to demonstrate a confident wet exit and reentry. You will get wet on this course so dress appropriately!! Dry or wetsuit rental available for a modest price from Comox Valley Kayaks.
Skills taught include:
Rescue skills
-self and assisted reentries including the paddle float reentry and roll technique
-towing techniques
Paddling skills
-more efficient forward stroke
-bracing and maneuvering strokes for turning in wind and wave
-sculling for support
-combined strokes

the knowledge and skills necessary to become a confident and competent sea kayak
Day Guide recognized by the SKGABC.
This course is designed for:
People aspiring to become guides
Guides aspiring to become certified by the SKGABC
Recreational kayakers wishing to increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of
sea kayaking
The course demands your full attention and commitment. You will challenge your boat
handling skills and learn about weather, tides and currents, and navigation. Leadership
skills are emphasized through hands on practice and scenarios.
